By Head Coach Isaac James – Core Combat Sports

We’re pleased to announce that we have lowered the minimum age for our kids classes from 7 years old to 6 years old.

This means your child can now start their martial arts journey one year sooner at Core Combat Sports.

Over the years, we’ve had lots of parents asking whether their children could get involved earlier. Some have even asked about starting from as young as 2 years old. While we still believe children need a certain level of maturity to properly benefit from martial arts training, our recent gym improvements mean we can now safely and effectively welcome children from age 6.

Why We’ve Made This Change

Our new gym layout gives us much more training space, which allows us to organise the kids classes more effectively.

We also now have additional staff members supporting the sessions, meaning we can split the class into more suitable age groups:

  • Younger kids: ages 6–8

  • Older kids: ages 9–10

This means children can train in a way that better suits their age, size, confidence and ability.

A Better Experience for Every Child

By separating younger and older children within the class, we can provide a better learning environment for everyone.

The younger children can focus on building confidence, coordination, listening skills and basic martial arts movements.

The older children can be challenged with slightly more advanced drills, better focus and more technical development.

This helps every child get more from the session.

Beginner-Friendly Kids Classes

Our kids classes are designed to help children build:

  • Confidence

  • Fitness

  • Discipline

  • Coordination

  • Respect

  • Focus

  • Basic martial arts skills

They do not need any previous experience to start.

The aim is to give children a positive introduction to martial arts in a clean, professional and friendly gym environment.
