Do You Need to Be Fit Before Starting Muay Thai or MMA in Bradford?

By Head Coach Isaac James – Core Combat Sports

One of the biggest worries people have before starting Muay Thai or MMA is fitness.

They think they need to get fit first, lose weight first or build confidence before walking into a martial arts gym.

You do not.

Training is how you build those things.

At Core Combat Sports in Bradford, many of our members started with no previous experience and no martial arts background. Some wanted to improve their fitness. Some wanted to build confidence. Some wanted to learn real self-defence skills. Others simply wanted to try something different from a normal gym.

You do not need to arrive as the finished article. You just need to start.

You Build Fitness by Training

Muay Thai and MMA are challenging, but that is part of the benefit.

You will improve by turning up consistently, learning the basics and building your fitness over time.

Nobody expects beginners to do everything perfectly. You are there to learn, and our coaches will guide you through the session.

A good training environment allows beginners to work at their own level while still being pushed in the right way.

Everyone Starts Somewhere

It is easy to look at experienced members or fighters and think they have always been that way.

They have not.

Every experienced person in the gym had a first session. Everyone had to learn their stance, footwork, punches, kicks and basic movements from scratch.

At Core Combat Sports, we have a strong team of active fighters, but the gym is not just for fighters.

Most people train for:

  • Better fitness

  • More confidence

  • Practical self-defence

  • Stress relief

  • Strength and discipline

  • Being part of a positive team

You do not need to want to compete to benefit from training. |

Book a Beginner-Friendly Trial

The best way to get started is to book a beginner-friendly trial through our website.

All bookable trial sessions are suitable for beginners, and free equipment hire is included. That means you do not need to buy gloves, shin pads or any other kit before your first session.

Just wear some shorts and a T-shirt, bring some water and come ready to learn.

No experience required. Free equipment hire included.

What If You Feel Nervous?

Feeling nervous before your first session is completely normal.

Most beginners worry about the same things:

  • “Will I be fit enough?”

  • “Will I look stupid?”

  • “Will everyone else be better than me?”

  • “Will I be expected to fight?”

The answer is no.

You will be coached through the session, shown what to do and supported as you learn. Nobody expects you to know the techniques before you arrive.

That is exactly what the class is for.

Ladies-Only Trial Option

We also offer a bookable ladies-only class for women who would feel more comfortable starting in a women-only environment.

This can be a great option if you are interested in Muay Thai but feel unsure about joining a mixed class straight away.

The same applies: no experience is required, and free equipment hire is included for your trial.

Ready to Start?

Do not wait until you feel fitter.

Do not wait until you feel more confident.

Training is how you develop those things.

Book a beginner-friendly trial, come down to Core Combat Sports and get started.

No experience required. Free equipment hire included.

You can also view our timetable to find the right class for your age, goals and schedule.
